Ask Carrie

I've worked at the same place for almost 5 years. I make as much as a shift leader, but I don't have the title. I wouldn't mind being a shift leader, but if there's no financial gain, what's the point?

-Kelsey from Elkhart, TX

Dear Kelsey-

Do you work to live? In other words, is your job just an end to a means? If so, there probably isn't much point to taking on more responsibility without more pay.

However, if you want to grow personally and professionally, and do something more than what you are currently doing, grab any opportunity you can to develop your skills where you are. This may open some doors for you at your current job or at a new one.
